Coming Soon: Residential Prepaid Solar Lease
Making SOLAR accessible to all households.
The mission of the Georgia BRIGHT program is to make solar accessible to all households, regardless of their income or financial history. That’s why we are excited to offer qualifying Georgia households the opportunity to receive a free, on-site solar installation at no upfront cost and with no monthly payments.
With funding from the federal Solar for All program, BRIGHT will be able to install ~900 systems across the state. These systems will be provided in the form of fully prepaid leases, which means we will maintain responsibility for maintenance, so participants are protected from unexpected costs and poor performance.
To ensure fairness, the recipients will be selected through a drawing. To be eligible to enter the drawing, you must:
- Earn at or below 80% of the area median income for your county, adjusted for your household size (learn more via HUD.gov)
- Own your home
- Be current or near current on your mortgage payments and property taxes and not be at risk of foreclosure
- Have a rooftop or large yard space (300-500 ft2) that receives ample sunlight

TIMELINE & PROCESS
The first lottery will take place in August of 2025. A second lottery will be held in the spring of 2026.

In their most recent statement, the Thomas’ energy bill was just $18 after their system was powered in April.
Yes! With this prepaid lease, homeowners can receive a system at no upfront cost and with no monthly payments. This is made possible by the Solar for All program, which is funded by the Inflation Reduction Act and administered by the Environmental Protection Agency.
Savings are affected by a lot of factors, including the utility you receive electricity from, how much energy you use, when you use energy, the direction your solar panels are pointed, and the amount of shade at your home. Your solar installer will give you an estimate of your savings when your system is designed. In most cases, we expect savings to range from 50-70%.
You will not own the system you are receiving at first. Systems will be given to homeowners in the form of prepaid leases, which are just like any other lease, but fully prepaid so you aren’t responsible for any monthly payments. During this prepaid lease, Capital Good Fund will own the system and monitor and maintain it on your behalf. At the end of the prepaid lease term, the system will be transferred to you and you will own it outright.
No, we will only accept one entry per household.
No, households can only enter one of the two lotteries.
We are asking all applicants to verify their identity so we know we are selecting real Georgians for this program, not bots or out of state residents.
HUD defines the household as all individuals living in the home. This includes full time students who are claimed as dependents for federal tax purposes, individuals who are temporarily absent (for example, for work), and any children who live in the home at least 50% of the time. Household members who are away from the home permanently (for example, in a nursing home) should not be counted. If you have any questions about who counts as a member of your household, our team will be happy to help you during the income verification process.
You cannot claim federal tax credits for your system. Because Good Fund is the owner of your system, Good Fund will be claiming the tax credit for your system and using it to serve more households than we could otherwise.
